چکیده

This paper deals with the correspondence between macro and micro spatial interaction and choice models, in both a static and a dynamic context. After a review of recent literature, special attention is devoted to the interpretation of aggregate spatial interaction models (both the conventional gravity or entropy models and the more general theory of movement devëloped by Alonso) in the framework of stochastic discrete choice analysis, in particular multinomial logit models. It is demonstrated that both types of spatial interaction models are in agreement with the multinomial logit model originating from random utility theory. In addition, it is shown that the Alonso model has also a correspondence with a nested logit model. In the paper special emphasis is placed on dynamic spatial interaction analysis. First, a dynamic entropy model formulated as an optimal control model is devëloped, in which also feedback effects from the supply side are incorporated. This leads to a generalized dynamic spatial interaction model, which is again in agreement with discrete choice theory. It is also shown that a dynamic version of the Alonso model can be interpreted in an analogous way.

In the past decades a wide variety of transportation planning issues has come to the fore, addressing both the supply and the demand side. In this context a (seemingly) wide variety of different transportation models both static and dynamic, both microand macrooriented has been developed. The main question to be answered is whether this wide variety of transportation models (e.g., dynamic model...

Governance: Blending Bureaucratic Rules with Day to Day Operational Realities; Comment on “Governance, Government, and the Search for New Provider Models”

Richard Saltman and Antonio Duran take up the challenging issue of governance in their article “Governance, Government and the Search for New Provider Models,” and use two case studies of health policy changes in Sweden and Spain to shed light on the subject. In this commentary, I seek to link their conceptualization of governance, especially its interrelated roles at the macro, meso, and micro...

Formal-comparative analysis of the spatial organization of student residence halls based on their spatial threshold patterns

Functional quality of the student residence halls has a great deal of importance due to their collective nature and the fact that they are considered as housing units, identifying and defining the role of intermediary spaces on the spatial organization and and spatial consociation of student residence halls which is a compound system of masses and spatial borderlines can bring order to its syst...

Evaluation and comparison of Hela, Hep2C and Vero cell lines sensitivity to polio vaccinal virus using micro and macro vaccine potency tests

Poliomyelitis, an acute viral infectious disease caused by poliovirus, still remains a public health problem in developing countries. Despite the global effort to eradicate polio, continuing the polio immunization with a potent and safe vaccine is essential. For accurate vaccine evaluation, three types of cell lines including Hela, Hep2C and Vero were evaluated and compared using two methods of...

Editorial - Cultural Evolution in Spatially Structured Populations: a Review of Alternative Modeling Frameworks

We consider the dynamics of cultural evolution in spatially-structured populations. Most spatially explicit modeling approaches can be broadly divided into two classes: microand macro-level models. Macro-level models study cultural evolution at the population level and describe the average behavior of the considered system. Conversely, micro-level models focus on the constituent units of the sy...
